India’s grid is changing: 50 GWh of battery storage planned under Green Energy Corridor III

Green Energy Corridor Phase III will strengthen intra-state transmission for up to 135 GW of renewable energy and provide for 50 GWh of battery storage.

Renewable energy needs an equally ambitious grid.

Green Energy Corridor Phase III is designed to strengthen India’s intra-state transmission system, enabling the evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy across participating States and Union Territories.

Transmission is what moves electricity from renewable-generation sites into the wider network, where it can reach consumers. As clean generation grows, this infrastructure becomes increasingly essential.

Fifty gigawatt-hours of flexibility.

The scheme provides for 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems. Batteries can absorb electricity during periods of high generation and discharge it when the system needs it, helping address intermittency, congestion, peak-hour curtailment and non-solar-hour demand.

The same principle applies at smaller scales: a building with rooftop solar can store excess midday output and use it later under the control of an energy-management system.

From generation to orchestration.

Tomorrow’s grid will involve utility-scale renewables alongside rooftop systems, storage, EV chargers, homes, factories and bioenergy. The transition is not only about adding clean generation—it is about coordinating it intelligently.
